Tarmac Driveway After Care Tips in Leeds

It’s worth it. A tarmac driveway will last you many years. We don’t intend to sound too directive, but these tips are a must-have to help protect your investment.

1 - Do not drive on newly laid asphalt for more than 2 days.

It’s better to leave the tarmac longer if it is hot before you drive on it. We are happy to help you if you have any questions about driveways or paths made of tarmac.

It’s important to note that your driveway will be most vulnerable to damage in the first year. As it ages, the tarmac will become harder and more grey.

2 – Driveway manoeuvres

Before you turn the steering wheel, be always on the move.

Scuff marks can be caused by turning the wheel when the vehicle is stationary. You could cause more damage if you keep causing the same scuff marks.

3 – Avoid 'point loads', or spread the pressure.

Point loads are objects that exert undued pressure on a single spot. This is something like the motorbike stand, which removes the pressure from the tyres but then puts them through the small area of the metal foot. Another example of point loads is the feet or ladders of caravans.

If it is impossible to avoid, the trick is to place a board under your feet/stand. This will distribute the pressure over a larger area and spread the burden.

4 – Get rid of spills right away

The driveway’s surface can be damaged by detergent and oil. Please don’t leave any spillage, no matter how small or large.

You should immediately soak up any liquid – dry sand, cat litter and sawdust all work well. They can also be disposed of easily through household waste.

You can soak any residue with water and wash it off.
